The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams reports that 105 persons were arrested and charged over the weekend for not following Quarantine Regulations set by the Government of Belize.
According to the Commissioners report:
- 41 persons were charged with “failing to wear a face mask or other mouth covering whilst in public.
- 28 persons were charged with “breach of curfew”.
- 5 persons were charged with “failing to practice social distancing”.
- 7 persons were charged with “hosting a restricted social event”.
- 23 persons were charged with “attending a restricted social event”.
- 1 person was charged for “refusing to wear a face mask or other mouth covering whilst on public transport”.
The buckling down on enforcing all Safety Protocols comes after Belize rose from second to first place in having the most COVID-19 cases in the Caribbean, surpassing Jamaica by almost one thousand cases.
Jamaica had been in first for quite some time.
