Belize Deliveryman Leads Police Chase With Firearm

A high-speed chase unfolded through Belize City after a Belize deliveryman leads police chase with firearm late Tuesday night, April 15, 2025. Police arrested 28-year-old Alexander Andrew Leslie, a delivery worker living at #11 Mopan Street, following the intense pursuit. Authorities say Leslie carried an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during the chase.

Around 10:50 p.m., officers on patrol noticed Leslie and another man acting suspiciously on a black and red motorcycle near Alicia Street. When police signaled them to stop, Leslie sped off, triggering a wild chase through major roads, including Mahogany Street, Administration Drive, and Lacroix Boulevard.

As the pursuit intensified, Leslie reportedly tossed a black 9mm pistol into a drain on Beatrice Smith Street. Police later recovered the weapon, finding it loaded with 15 live rounds—12 brass Luger brand and 3 brass 9mm bullets. Eventually, the suspects crashed the motorcycle near Gladden Street and tried to escape on foot. Officers, with help from the GI3 unit, captured Leslie shortly afterward.

Police confirmed Leslie’s connection to the motorcycle through its VIN number and insurance disk. They charged him with keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping unlicensed ammunition. He appeared unrepresented in Court #6 before a Senior Magistrate and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Despite the plea, the court denied bail due to the serious nature of the offenses. Under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, Leslie must remain at the Belize Central Prison. His next court appearance is set for June 17, 2025.

This case, where a Belize deliveryman leads police chase with firearm, underscores the urgency of addressing illegal weapons and reckless behavior on city streets. Police continue to investigate further leads connected to the incident.
