Police have launched an investigation after a body found in Belize River raised alarm in western Belize. The discovery, made early Tuesday morning, follows a tip received the previous evening.
On Monday, April 28, around 5:30 p.m., police received reports of a body floating in the Belize River. Officers responded quickly and searched the area. However, despite their efforts, they did not locate the body at that time.
Early the next morning, on Tuesday at around 5:45 a.m., a team of officers returned to the river. This time, they discovered a male body in an advanced state of decomposition. The body was found in the same general area reported the day before.
Authorities retrieved the body from the water and began an initial inspection. Although severely decomposed, officers found a wallet with a social security card inside. This document may help confirm the man’s identity. However, because of the body’s condition, police have not yet released a name.
A post-mortem examination is pending and will help determine the exact cause of death. The results could also assist in confirming the man’s identity.
This case has drawn attention from local residents who frequently use the riverbanks. Many expressed concern over safety near the river and hope for answers soon.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. Officers are also asking anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
As the story unfolds, authorities will continue their efforts to learn what happened before the body found in Belize River was discovered.
