The Belize Coast Guard report that five Mexican nationals are being quarantined in Corozal Town after being detained on Sunday night.
According to the report, the men were spotted on Ambergris Caye and attempted to flee from authorities but were unsuccesful.
The men claimed that they were coming from Mahahual, a small fishing village in the state of Quintana Roo, and were heading to the city of Chetumal when they got caught in some bad weather and were forced to dock on Ambergris Caye.
All five men were detained for illegally entering Belize and will be charged after being quarantined for fourteen days.
Mexican media outlets claim that the said men are fishermen from Mahahual and were reported to have gone missing somewhere near the Southern Coast of Quintana Roo on Saturday.
