Authorities have confirmed that a drug plane landed in Belize late last night, with law enforcement tracking its movements from South America. According to Police Commissioner Chester Williams, officials received intelligence around 11:00 p.m. about a suspicious aircraft heading toward Belize.
The Joint Intelligence Operations Centre (JIOC) coordinated a rapid response, deploying police and military personnel to possible landing sites.
“Our counterparts indicated that the plane landed in Belizean territory near the border with Guatemala, in extremely rugged terrain,” Williams stated.
Aerial reconnaissance confirmed the aircraft’s location. Officers on the ground discovered the small jet deliberately set on fire after landing. No cargo was found onboard.
The drug plane landed in Belize on a makeshift airstrip between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. Authorities continue investigations into the illegal landing.
