Bert Vasquez, convicted of attempted rape in 2018, has lost his appeal as the Court of Appeal upheld both his conviction and sentence. The case relates to a January 2011 incident involving a 20-year-old woman.
Representing himself, Bert Vasquez argued against Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl Lyn Vidal, seeking to overturn his conviction. However, after reviewing the case, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal and confirmed his sentence.
The court noted an excessive delay in processing the appeal, which they recognized as a breach of his right to a fair hearing within a reasonable time. Despite this, the ruling remained unchanged, and Vasquez’s conviction stands.
With this decision, Vasquez must complete the remainder of his sentence, marking another failed legal bid to alter his fate.
