Belize Illegal Ammunition Case: Couple Remanded After Police Find Bullets

A Belize illegal ammunition case has landed a couple behind bars after police discovered 34 live rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition in their home.

The suspects, 45-year-old KHMH employee Deborah Harris Sutherland and her 20-year-old boyfriend, Dejon Medwood, were arrested during a shooting investigation. Officers found the bullets hidden inside a drum at their Mahogany Street residence in Belize City.

Both appeared in court this afternoon without legal representation and were charged with keeping ammunition without a gun license. Medwood took full responsibility, insisting Sutherland had no knowledge of the bullets. However, authorities have not dropped her charge.

The Belize illegal ammunition case has led to their remand at Belize Central Prison until sentencing on March 7, 2025. Sutherland, who suffers from asthma triggered by confined spaces, broke down in court. The Senior Magistrate stated she could not grant bail but would inform prison authorities of Sutherland’s condition.
