Akeem Smith Survives Shooting Near San Pedro Belize Express

On Saturday evening, Akeem Smith, a 32-year-old fisherman from Lake I, was nearly shot near the San Pedro Belize Express parking lot on North Front Street.

Around 6:00 p.m., Akeem Smith and three others were returning from the sea when gunmen opened fire along Haulover Creek. They spotted two men near the Musa & Balderamos Law Firm, and one fired four to five shots.

To escape, Akeem Smith and his companions jumped into the creek and swam toward City Hall on Regent Street. The boat captain later returned and steered the vessel away.

Smith was grazed on the head and taken to KHMH, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police found a 9mm shell casing behind City Hall. Smith, known as “Baby”, is the younger brother of a gang figure. Authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent retaliation.

Investigations continue.
