Authorities have formally charged an American charged in Belize after a fatal boating accident near Turneffe Atoll.
Police arrested 28-year-old Spenser Eisenberg for manslaughter by negligence following the death of 70-year-old U.S. tourist Jeffery Le Beau. The incident occurred while Le Beau, a vacationing grandfather and former defense lawyer, snorkeled in a designated dive zone.
Witnesses reported that Eisenberg’s boat entered the restricted area at high speed, ignoring caution markers. The vessel struck Le Beau in front of several onlookers, including his two sons.
Eisenberg, who resides in Caye Caulker, was taken into custody and later charged. Investigators are determining if more charges will follow.
Le Beau, known in U.S. legal circles for his manslaughter defense work, was also an experienced waterman. The American charged in Belize now awaits legal proceedings as the case unfolds.
