A Belize City man remanded to prison now faces serious charges. Police say he pulled a firearm on two people, including a minor.
Officers identified the suspect as 26-year-old Gilbert Jason Goodger. He previously lived in Belize City but now claims Orange Walk as his home.
Goodger appeared in Senior Magistrate’s Court #6, where he pleaded not guilty. He called the charges false and said he had an alibi. His girlfriend could confirm his whereabouts.
The court denied him bail due to the severity of the charges. Under Section 16 of the Crimes Control Criminal Justice Act, he must remain in custody. His next court date is May 27, 2025. He may still apply for bail through the High Court.
The incident happened on March 24, 2025, at 6:50 a.m. James Earl Jones, 31, said he was walking on Freetown Road with a minor. He saw Goodger at the corner of Freetown and Mapp Street. Jones knew him from prison.
Jones claims Goodger pulled a black object from his waist and pointed it at him. The object looked like a pistol. Goodger then aimed at the minor and threatened Jones before walking toward Cleghorn Street.
Later that day, police found Goodger near Mapp Street. They arrested him and took him into custody.
Goodger insists he is innocent. He says his alibi will prove he was not at the scene. The court will now decide his fate.
