Belize Police Cartel Links: Commissioner Williams Hints at Officer Reshuffling
Police Commissioner Chester Williams admits some Belize Police cartel links exist and suggests another officer reshuffling in the Northern districts may be necessary.
Addressing the discovery of Raheem Usher’s body and a note found at the scene, Williams reinforced his stance against officers involved in criminal activities.
“If you lie with dogs, you catch their fleas,” he stated. “If you entangle yourself with the cartel, you must face the consequences.”
Williams confirmed a recent personnel reshuffling in the Northern districts due to intelligence linking officers to cartel activity. He now believes another transfer may be required.
“We moved many officers, but it looks like we may have to reshuffle again,” he said.
The commissioner made it clear that corrupt officers would not be shielded.
“We won’t protect those who got involved,” he asserted. “Keeping them in these areas isn’t in the department’s best interest.”
Of the two officers named in the note near Usher’s body, one is stationed in Orange Walk, while the other is in Cayo. Authorities continue assessing whether further transfers are necessary.
When asked about police involvement in drug plane landings, Williams did not deny the possibility.
“The public knows some officers work with plane landers. I won’t lie and pretend I don’t know,” he admitted.
Authorities continue investigating Belize Police cartel links and will take action against any officers involved.
