Belize Police Officer Discharged After Internal Investigation

A Belize police officer discharged from the department is now facing scrutiny following an internal investigation into a serious case. Authorities confirmed the officer’s termination in an official letter issued on March 28, 2025.

The letter states, “In light of the serious nature of the allegations against you, the impact on the reputation of the Belize Police Department, and after careful consideration of the submission by your attorney… I hereby exercise my power and discharge you from the Belize Police Department.”

Before releasing the letter to the media, officials redacted the officer’s name. However, his alleged connection to a chilling discovery raised serious concerns.

In late February, authorities found the body of 29-year-old Raheem Usher in San Antonio Village. He had been missing for over a month. His body was not severely decomposed, suggesting he had been held captive before being shot twice in the head.

Police discovered Usher handcuffed, wrapped in a sheet, and covered in plastic. A handwritten threat on the sheet warned those ‘bringing down planes with drugs.’ It also listed six names, including the officer’s.

This Belize police officer discharged amid the investigation now faces mounting public scrutiny. Authorities continue reviewing evidence as they work to determine further legal actions.
