BNTU Members Vote in Favor of Industrial Action Phases

BNTU Members vote in favor of industrial action phases. In a strong display of unity, over 2,500 members of the Belize National Teachers’ Union have voted to support a structured plan for industrial action. The BNTU members vote took place countrywide and reflects growing frustration among educators.

Members were asked to vote on three escalating phases of action. The results are now in.

  • Phase 1 will begin with a public demonstration.
  • Phase 2 includes a two-day national shutdown.
  • Phase 3 will move toward a full strike if necessary.

The vote comes at a time when teachers across Belize are calling for stronger representation, fairer treatment, and respect for their rights and professional growth.

BNTU President Nadia Caliz thanked all members for their participation. She said the vote was not only a democratic move but also a powerful sign of commitment to improving the education system.

In her message, Caliz urged teachers to remain united and focused. She emphasized the need to work together to protect the dignity of teachers and ensure the best possible outcomes for students.

Caliz added that the union is determined to move forward with purpose and strength. The BNTU remains committed to pushing for change that benefits both educators and the children they serve.

The BNTU industrial action strategy sends a clear message. If progress does not come through dialogue, the union is prepared to act.

As the phases roll out, the BNTU promises to keep members informed every step of the way.
