A serious case of burglary with intent to rape is now under investigation in Belize City. The incident involves Steve Ferrell, a 26-year-old construction worker also known as “Dina.” Police say he unlawfully entered a woman’s home and allegedly tried to sexually assault her while she slept.
According to reports, the event happened around midday on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The 32-year-old victim, a cook by profession, told police she had dozed off on her living room sofa. She left her front door open for ventilation while her 10-year-old daughter played nearby.
Suddenly, she woke up to someone lifting her dress. To her shock, she saw Ferrell standing over her with his genitals exposed. She recognized him immediately, as he is a long-time family friend. She screamed in fear. Ferrell then allegedly cursed at her before fleeing through the open door.
The very next day, Ferrell turned himself in to the Raccoon Street Police Station. Authorities arrested and charged him with burglary with intent to rape. On Tuesday, May 27, he appeared before Magistrate Ludlow Blackyear in Belize City’s Magistrate Court #5. Ferrell, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court granted him bail set at $4,000, with two sureties of $2,000 each. However, the bail came with strict conditions. Ferrell must stay at least 100 feet away from the victim and her family. He is also barred from contacting them or interfering with any witnesses. Additionally, he must report weekly to the Raccoon Street Police Station starting Friday, May 30.
Ferrell’s next court appearance is set for July 22, 2025.
