The Belize Tourism Board announced that on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, the Carnival Vista Cruise Ship docked in Belizean waters and reported that 27 people on board were reportedly showing signs of having COVID-19.
Twenty-Six of them are reported to be part of the crew, meanwhile, one person is a passenger.
The Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations along with his team from the Ministry, members of the Belize Tourism Board, and officials from the Carnival Vista Cruise Line immediately met virtually and discussed the situation.
After receiving reassurance from the Carnival Vista Cruise Line that COVID-19 safety protocols have been put into place on the ship to effectively contain the situation and assured that all people with positive cases have been isolated and contact tracing had been performed with no additional positive cases found, the Belize Tourism Board and Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora agreed to allow all passengers, who did not show signs of COVID-19, of the cruise ship to disembark on Belizean soil.
