A Chetumal shooting in the Solidaridad neighborhood left one person dead, two injured, and a kidnapping victim rescued around 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
According to Quintana Roo’s Public Security Secretariat, Rural Police officers patrolling Erick Paolo Avenue saw a man signaling for help. He indicated that individuals were forcing a citizen into a vehicle.
As officers approached the unmarked Volkswagen Bora, its occupants opened fire. Police returned fire, injuring two suspects and killing a third, who wore a black bulletproof vest and remains unidentified.
Although the suspects wore tactical vests labeled “FGR,” authorities confirmed they were not affiliated with the Attorney General’s Office.
After the shootout, officers rescued a kidnapping victim, who immediately received medical attention.
The vehicle used in the attack has been linked to criminal activities in Othón P. Blanco. The State Attorney General’s Office has taken over the investigation.
Authorities continue investigating the Chetumal shooting, seeking to determine the suspects’ identities and connections.
