The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, appeared today at the House of Representatives meeting to plead with the Ministers to extend the current State of Emergency which was implemented on the South Side of Belize City back in July.
According to Williams, as the Belize Police Department begins to get more strict on enforcing COVID-19 related offenses, they do not want to have additional worries about gang-related activities being conducted by the more well-known trouble makers of the South Side who are currently being detained since the State of Emergency was declared.
The Commissioner of Police reports that it has been noted that since the original 90+ well-known trouble makers of the South Side community were imprisoned the crime rate in Belize City has been declining.
It is now up to the House of Representatives to discuss the matter and vote on whether or not they believe an extension to the State of Emergency for the South Side of Belize City would be beneficial.
