In a joint operation, the State Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard rescued 13 suspected victims of human trafficking in Cozumel from a local bar. The intervention followed a court-issued search warrant prompted by concerns about minors being present.
Authorities discovered women of various nationalities, including eight Mexicans, two Colombians, one Salvadoran, one Brazilian, and one Belizean. All were adults. The presence of the Belizean national among the victims highlights the international scope of the suspected trafficking network.
Officials transferred the victims to the Attorney General’s Office for legal procedures while shutting down the bar. The establishment will remain secured as investigations continue.
The operation was led by Investigation Police officers specializing in human trafficking and child exploitation. Their goal was to dismantle a potential criminal network operating within the area. Authorities believe this case is part of a larger human trafficking in Cozumel operation and will continue investigating those responsible.
