On Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, information was received of two persons attached to the Belize Special Assignment Group (BSAG) had been shot on the Coastal Highway about 5 miles from the George Price Highway.
Police responded to the report and the initial investigation revealed that the BSAG personnel was in a vehicle conducting a patrol in search of escaped prisoners when they came under fire.
As a result, Lance Flowers received a gunshot wound below the knee and Police Constable Whakyem Martinez received a gunshot injury to the waist.
Police returned fire in the direction of where the shots were coming from then later canvassed the area.
As a result, they found the motionless body of Escaped Prisoner, Akem Tillett and next to him on the ground was a loaded M4 Carbine Rifle.
