A fatal fall in San Pedro has left a community in shock. On Saturday, 40-year-old Hever Badal Torres lost his life after a tragic accident.
Torres, a Mexican national, was fixing zinc sheets on the roof of a four-storey building. Witnesses said he stepped onto a weak section. Suddenly, the roof gave way, and Torres plunged to the ground.
A loud crash echoed through the area. Neighbors rushed to the scene and called emergency services. Officials and coworkers tried to help Torres immediately. Sadly, doctors at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II pronounced him dead shortly after.
Investigators believe the fatal fall in San Pedro was caused by a damaged part of the roof. They moved Torres’ body to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for a post-mortem exam.
Meanwhile, another tragedy happened the next day. A 47-year-old Canadian national fell from the third floor of the Watermark Hotel. He was found dead at the scene.
Police are investigating both incidents separately. They have not ruled out foul play or other factors in the second case.
Officials urge workers and property owners to inspect roofs and balconies regularly. Unsafe structures can lead to deadly accidents, especially on multi-story buildings.
The San Pedro community now mourns two sudden deaths within just two days. Authorities promise to share more information as their investigations move forward.
