The Ministry of Health and Wellness informs Belizeans that 15 swabs were sent out to Baylor College in Houston Texas for Gene Sequencing to which 1 returned testing positive to the new UK Variant of COVID-19.
According to the Government of Belize, the UK Variant was from a member of the British Army Training Support Unit (BATSUB) who came to Belize on January 12th but tested to be asymptomatic upon arrival.
All troops coming to Belize are required to bring with them a negative PCR Test that was done within 72-hours before arrival and are re-swabbed a day after arrival.
They are also required to quarantine until their results are received.
A further 40 swabs have been sent and the Ministry of Health and Wellness currently wait for the results.
