Former Guatemalan congressman José Armando Ubico Aguilar will spend 18 years in U.S. federal prison for drug trafficking, AP reports.
A Texas court sentenced him on February 11.
Ubico Aguilar, 45, admitted to helping smuggle cocaine into the U.S. and relaying drug-related information and money for an international trafficker.
He helped move at least 450 kilograms (992 pounds) of cocaine through Guatemala for U.S. distribution.
Authorities indicted him in March 2021, and he pleaded guilty in May 2024.
