A total of 51 samples were processed today and the 14 suspected samples have returned testing positive.

The Ministry of Health reports on where all 14 positive cases of COVID-19 are from:

  • 10 cases are related to the case identified on Sunday on Ambergris Caye (further samples are still pending process).
  • 1 case in Belmopan is someone who had come in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital.
  • 1 case was traced to the cluster of positive cases on Ambergris Caye which were tested on Tuesday, August 4th.
  • 2 cases on Ambergris Caye which do not seem to be related to any previous cluster tested, 1 of the patients is a child.

The San Pedro Polyclinic II also reports that at least 20 additional people who have not had any contact with any members of the previously mentioned clusters have been showing symptoms of COVID-19 and have been swabbed, they are still waiting for the test results.

With the huge amount of new cases on Ambergris Caye it is expected that the Government of Belize will implement a State of Emergency once again to attempt and contain further spread of the COVID-19 Virus throughout Belize.
