Freetown Road Machete Fight Leads To Five Arrested

A violent machete incident on Freetown Road involving family disputes, weapons, and police intervention led to multiple charges and court appearances.

A Freetown Road machete fight erupted Tuesday night, May 20, leading to chaos, warning shots, and multiple arrests. Around 7:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a violent street brawl outside a residence at #89 Freetown Road. Officers arrived to find two women locked in a brutal fight.

Suddenly, one woman, identified as 36-year-old Lorna Garnett of Santa Barbara Street, reportedly pulled a machete. She advanced toward her opponent, ignoring officers’ repeated commands to drop the weapon. As the danger escalated, police fired two warning shots into the air. Thankfully, Garnett dropped the weapon before anyone was seriously harmed.

Both women suffered head injuries and were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. Soon after, authorities escorted them to court. Garnett pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a $300 fine plus $5 in court costs. Her cousin’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Brenda Arnold, initially faced the same charge, which the court withdrew after Garnett’s plea.

Still, Arnold faced a second charge. Eighteen-year-old Deandra Medwood accused her of attacking while she held a toddler and preventing her from entering the yard. Arnold denied the allegations, received $2,000 bail, and must stay at least 150 feet from Medwood. She returns to court on July 7, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Freetown Road machete fight didn’t end there. Three men—Dequane Deshawn Garnett, 28, and brothers Albert and Alburn Plunkett—also faced charges. Police say they got caught in a scuffle while trying to stop the fight. All three pleaded not guilty to common assault and were granted $300 bail. They also return to court in July.

The Chief Magistrate warned Lorna Garnett she narrowly avoided more serious charges. Police say swift action likely prevented a tragic outcome. The case remains under investigation.
