The long-established trade between Belize and Guatemala has come to a temporary halt when Belizean Authorities stopped Guatemalan Cargo Trucks from entering Belize at the Western Border to pickup corn from suppliers in Belize.
According to the Guatemalan Truck Drivers, they were destined to head to Spanish Lookout in the Cayo District to pick up corn and were then to immediately return to Guatemala.
In response, Guatemalan Truckers are now protesting at the Western Border and not allowing Belizean Cargo Trucks to return to Belize with supplies.
There is no word as of yet from the Government of Belize as to why they have put a stop to all Guatemalan Cargo Trucks from entering the country, it is speculated that it may be a result of the Current State of Emergency but if so why has it taken so long for the Government of Belize to halt transport?
