The Government of Belize informs the general public that a call between the Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow, and the Premier of the Cayman Islands, Alden McLaughlin, on Saturday, April 11th has resulted with Belize being offered the option of purchasing as many COVID-19 Testing Kits as needed from them.
Belize has so far received 2,500 test kits from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and is expecting an additional 11,500.
Meanwhile, an additional 4,000 Test Kits have been ordered from the Roche Agency in Guatemala of which 2,000 of those kits are expected to be delivered this week and the remaining next week.
Each test kit is reported to contain 100 tests.
The Belizean Government will make a decision on how many Testing Kits to purchase from the Cayman Islands after the remainder of Kits being sent by PAHO arrives.
Of note, the Government of Belize is the only Government part of the Central American Integration System to turn down the donation of 180,000 COVID-19 Testing Kits by the Republic of South Korea claiming that Belize did not have the necessary equipment or specific training required to use these kits.
