The Governor-General of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason, has announced that Barbados is to become a republic by their 55th Anniversary of their Independence which will be in the year 2021.
With this announcement, Barbados is the 4th Anglophone CARICOM Republic, joining Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, and Dominica with a local head of state.
The Governor-General of Barbados further stated that it was time for Barbados to leave its Colonial past behind as for several years the island’s administration stands under severe pressure to demolish a political system that still allows Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II to be its head of state.
