Authorities are investigating the Guanacaste National Park drowning that claimed the lives of two teenage boys near Belmopan.
Searchers discovered the bodies just before 5 p.m. The boys had been underwater for over 20 minutes, with only their feet visible. Rescuers pulled them from the river, but neither showed signs of life.
Investigations revealed the boys were socializing with two girls when one drifted away. His friend attempted to help, but both became exhausted. Two bystanders tried to assist but failed. The boys went under and never resurfaced.
Police continue investigating the Guanacaste National Park drowning to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
