Gun violence erupted in Belize City on Sunday morning, leaving two men dead in separate shootings just hours apart. The first attack happened around 9:00 a.m. when a bullet-riddled silver Ford Explorer crashed into the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) entrance, injuring a security guard. Inside the vehicle, three men suffered gunshot wounds.

Joseph Lee Garcia, 22, of Sarawee Village, was driving with Ronlee Petillo, 37, and Shamar Faber, 18, when an unknown vehicle overtook them near Titanic Night Club. Attackers opened fire, hitting all three men. Despite his injuries, Garcia tried to drive to the hospital but lost control. The vehicle crashed at KHMH, where he was pronounced dead at 9:07 a.m. Petillo and Faber were admitted for treatment. Police recovered 16 expended shells from the scene.

Just hours later, around 12:25 p.m., another shooting occurred at #32 Robinson Lane, Fabers Road. Police arrived to find Rafael Antonio Casares, 42, slumped on a sofa with gunshot wounds to the upper body. A gunman had stormed the home, fired several shots, and escaped down Robinson Lane. Reports suggest the intended target may have been Casares’s brother.

Gun violence in Belize City continues to be a serious concern. Police are investigating both incidents, but no arrests have been made.
