Belize’s most notorious fugitive, Hildebrandt Codd, has now evaded capture for an entire year. Authorities have increased the reward for information leading to his arrest to BZ $10,000 or 95,000 Pesos. Despite ongoing efforts, Codd remains at large, raising concerns about public safety.
The 34-year-old convicted murderer escaped custody in December 2023 alongside another inmate while being transported to court. He was convicted of the brutal murder of Densmore Bowman, a 32-year-old resident of Roaring Creek Village. The crime, committed on November 29, 2018, remains one of the most shocking acts of violence in recent history.
Court evidence revealed that Codd confessed to a witness, admitting he and an accomplice got Bowman intoxicated before tying him up and torturing him. Despite Bowman’s desperate pleas, Codd stabbed him in the heart, inflicted severe facial injuries, and even severed his toes as he tried to escape.
The horror did not end there. The next day, Codd returned to the crime scene, retrieved Bowman’s body, and further mutilated it before decapitating him. He then buried the remains in a shallow grave near the George Price Highway.
Authorities uncovered the crime scene during an extensive search, bringing the gruesome details to light. As the search for Hildebrandt Codd continues, officials urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Belize Police Department immediately.
