Corozal Police were summoned to the residence of Belize’s Minister of Health, Pablo Marin in the Rainbow Park area of Corozal Town around 10:30 PM on Thursday, August 28th.
Upon arrival, Marin told Police Officers that he had heard noise coming from the lower flat of his home and went to investigate with his licensed 9mm pistol.
He found a man of East Indian descent standing on his veranda and fired a warning shot.
He then fired two shots in the man’s direction who then tried to flee by jumping over a fence.
Corozal Police found the body of 37-year-old Arkel Matura of San Antonio Village in a crouched position, lying face down and unresponsive in an empty lot.
Upon checking the premises, Corozal Police also observed that Marin’s residence was ransacked.
Three expended shells and some stolen items were recovered.
