Due to the close monitoring by Central American Countries of a tropical wave that has formed in the Caribbean Sea, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has released an updated version of their Hurricane Shelter Procedures in order to be able to host none sick Belizeans as well as COVID-19 Positive Patients.
According to the updated procedures, COVID-19 Positive Patients will remain at the current Quarantine Centers if possible, if not they will be placed into their own separate building at the local designated Hurricane Shelter.
If the COVID-19 Positive Patient is self-quarantining at home it will be up to the Ministry of Health to assess the situation and determine whether they believe they would be able to safely remain at home or whether they must be transported to a COVID-19 Positive Patients Hurricane Shelter.
Everyone who is taking refuge in a Hurricane Shelter must wear a face mask at all times and anyone who begins showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be separated into another section of the building.
Shelter Wardens and Managers will allocate Shelter Space as Social Distancing must still be adhered to and the shelter must be sanitized on a regular basis.
Ministry of Health Staff and other Authorized Volunteers will be asked to conduct daily monitoring of all healthy people taking refuge in the Hurricane Shelter in order to keep a mass spread of the Coronavirus.
All elderly and persons with underlying health conditions will be placed in a separate location away from everyone else.
