A New York tourist fined for cannabis at Philip Goldson International Airport faced an $805 penalty upon arrival. Yannick Nicole Buie, 21, landed on American Airlines Flight #583 from Miami on March 18. Authorities detected a cannabis odour, searched her luggage, and found 30.51 grams of the substance in four multicoloured packages.
Police arrested Buie and charged her with importing a controlled drug. In Belize City Magistrate’s Court #3, she pleaded guilty and received an $800 fine plus a $5 court fee. She had to pay immediately to avoid six months in prison.
