In a video update to the nation released by the Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow on Wednesday, April 22nd, he announced the good news that no new positive case of COVID-19 has been detected in any testings being done daily since Monday, April 13th.
So far there have been only eighteen cases in total of which two patients have passed away, five are fully recovered and eleven are said to be at home and fully expected to recover within the next few days.
The Prime Minister also reports that the mapping exercise being done in San Pedro Town, San Ignacio Town, Corozal Town, and Belize City to try and find everyone who may have come in contact with the eighteen positive patients are about to be completed and only random testings are being done at the moment.
As the Citizens of Belize are doing such an amazing job at maintaining a social distancing from each other and the remaining eleven patients expected to fully recover the Government of Belize feels there is no need to further extend the fourteen-day nationwide quarantine which expires at midnight on Saturday, April 25th.
The all day long Sunday nation wide lock down will remain for one more week and officially end on Sunday, April 30th.
Public transportation throughout the country by land, air, and sea will resume for essential workers and essential purposes but passengers will be required to wear face masks at all times while taking public transportation.
Government Officers will reopen and all additional businesses placed on total cessation will be allowed to go back to operating during limited hours including Sundays.
The Prime Minister of Belize ends the update to the nation claiming that even though the drastic, extended curfew will no longer be in effect, the National Assembly will be conveying at the House on Monday, May 1st followed by a meeting of the Senate on Tuesday, May 2nd to discuss the further extension of the current State of Emergency which expires on Sunday, April 30th.
