Police Corporal Shot Outside Fire Nightclub During Patrol

A police corporal was shot outside Fire Nightclub early Monday morning during a routine patrol near Mile 11 on the Philip Goldson Highway. Around 12:50 a.m., Corporal Manuel Chub and another officer were checking the area when they noticed a suspicious man loitering by the roadside.

The suspect, seated on a blue-and-black motorcycle with no license plates, appeared to be carrying both a firearm and a knife. Witnesses had reported his suspicious behavior, and the officers moved in to investigate.

As Chub approached and ordered the man to surrender, the suspect pulled out a pistol and fired. Chub was hit, and the gunman sped off on the highway. Officers from nearby units responded immediately, leading to a high-speed chase toward Boom Junction.

During the pursuit, the suspect exchanged gunfire with police, striking two patrol vehicles. Officers eventually captured the 36-year-old fisherman from Crooked Tree, who had sustained minor injuries. Authorities recovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol and found eight expended shells at the scene.

Both Chub and the suspect are now hospitalized. Chub remains in stable condition, while the suspect is under police guard.

The police corporal shot outside Fire Nightclub highlights the dangers officers face while on duty. Investigations continue as authorities prepare charges against the suspect.
