At 12:01 AM on July 1st, 2020 the Government of Belize will officially be ending the state of emergency which was put into place back in March when the first few cases were detected.
All though the state of emergency is officially declared over, the Government of Belize and specifically the Ministry of Health remind everyone that we must still adhere to a few post COVID regulations to ensure that things do not turn for the worst as many states within the US have in the past few weeks of opening back up.
As of July 1st, 2020 all businesses are free to open back up and curfew hours have been lifted but social distancing and the wearing of face masks will still be mandatory and will be strictly enforced by Belizean Authorities.
The Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) will officially open back up on August 15th, 2020 to allow foreigners to vacation but the Land Borders will continue to remain closed until further notice as cases in surrounding countries continue to escalate.
Due to the huge amount of people being caught illegally entering Belize during the state of emergency, the Government of Belize will be reinstating the Border Jumper Rule which states that anyone caught entering the country illegally, including Belizeans, will be arrested and sentenced to 3-months in prison as well as subject to a 14-day quarantine if proved positive for COVID-19.
Even though the curfew has been lifted and people are allowed to be out at all hours of the day, anyone caught loitering or moving about on the streets late at might with no purpose whatsoever may be arrested.
The six feet (2-meters) social distancing measure will be strictly enforced at all times both indoors and outdoors with the exception of bars/casinos.
The wearing of face masks will be mandatory while inside any public place or on board any public transportation.
Face masks must be worn at all times at all places where liquor is being served, except for the exception of removal for taking a bite of food or for taking a sip of your drink.
The wearing of face masks will not be required while eating at restaurants, attending church services, while exercising, participating in sporting activities, swimming, riding a motorcycle or bicycle.
Cargo and Emergency Medical Flights will be allowed to enter Belize once they have obtained permission from the Attorney General and Minister of National Security.
Day Care Centers will be allowed to operate.
