San Ignacio/Santa Elena Low-Lying Bridge will soon be replaced with a modern structure. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing has partnered with M&M Engineering Consultants Ltd. for the project.
The new bridge which replaces the San Ignacio/Santa Elena Low-Lying Bridge will feature reinforced concrete with pre-cast elements. It will span 95.5 meters with nine sections. A 6-meter-wide design includes a single traffic lane and a pedestrian walkway.
Construction begins on March 17, 2025. The site will close to all traffic as crews remove the old timber bridge. The project is expected to take four months.
Motorists should plan alternate routes and use the New Macal Bridge or Hawkesworth Bridge. The Hawkesworth Bridge will allow traffic in only one direction: from San Ignacio to Santa Elena.
