Santa Elena armed robbery suspects are in custody after a high-speed police chase led to their arrest on Saturday night.
Around 9:20 p.m., two young women were robbed on Perez Street by masked men who exited a dark-colored taxi. One suspect pointed a silver and black handgun at the victims, ordering them to the ground. The other suspect stole two handbags, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, jewelry, and cash before fleeing toward Edward Juan Street, where a black Geo Prizm taxi was waiting.
Acting on information, police patrol units spotted two men entering the taxi on Requena Street and gave chase. Officers intercepted the vehicle on Edward Juan Street, capturing four men. Two tried to flee but were quickly caught, while the others changed clothes to avoid identification.
A search of the taxi uncovered a 9mm Zigana pistol with an extended magazine loaded with nine live rounds. Police also recovered the stolen purses, phone, and valuables. None of the suspects could provide a valid firearm license.
Authorities confirmed that Santa Elena armed robbery charges, including firearm offenses, are pending as investigations continue.
