A state of emergency declared in Belize is now in full effect after three gang-related murders in just 48 hours. In response, authorities plan to transport around 60 suspected gang affiliates to the Kolbe Foundation, Belize’s central prison.
This emergency measure targets several high-risk zones. Most are in Belize City and the Belize District, with additional locations identified in the Cayo District. Officials confirm this move aims to curb escalating violence in communities long affected by gang activity.
In Belize City, the designated zones include areas from George Price Highway to Belize River, and from Central American Boulevard to Lake Independence Boulevard. Other affected areas span Fabers Road, the Yarborough community, Queen Street, and several streets near Cemetery Road. Law enforcement also lists Ladyville, Lord’s Bank, and villages between Mile 7 and 9 on the George Price Highway, such as Western Pines and Sunset.
Meanwhile, in the Cayo District, Roaring Creek Village and the Another World area fall under the emergency zone. The Young Bank area in Camalote Village is also included.
The state of emergency declared in Belize is scheduled to last one month. However, the National Assembly may extend it for up to twelve months at a time, depending on the situation.
Authorities believe these strong measures are necessary to restore public safety. Residents in affected areas are advised to cooperate with law enforcement and remain informed through official updates.
As this emergency unfolds, the nation watches closely. Many hope the crackdown will finally bring relief to communities living in fear of gang violence.
