Police Officers trying to do a good deed by assisting a broken down taxi van, end up discovering 47 pounds of weed.
Belize District Police report that on Saturday morning around 11:20 AM, members of the Anti Narcotic Unit were driving near Sandhill Village when they noticed a Taxi Van with Corozal License Plates broken down on the side of the road.
The officers stopped to render assistance and as they approached the vehicle they noted a strong scent of weed.
Upon conducting a search on the vehicle, officers found 11 parcels of suspected marijuana stashed behind the driver’s seat.
The Anti Narcotic Unit then detained the taxi driver and his common-law wife.
A mechanic was called to attempt to start the vehicle, after many failed attempts the mechanic decided to check the gas tank and that is when an additional 20 parcels of suspected marijuana was found.
The taxi van was then towed to the Ladyville Police Station where they stripped down the vehicle and found 7 more parcels hidden under the dashboard.
In total, the Anti Drug Unit found 47 pounds of suspected weed.
