A Texas couple’s vacation to Belize took an unexpected turn when they were arrested upon arrival at Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) on February 7, 2025.
35-year-old hairstylist Cranesha Dijon Gaynor and her husband, William Jerrod Gaynor, a barber, were detained after customs officers discovered 6 grams of cannabis inside Cranesha’s suitcase. The couple had traveled to celebrate Cranesha’s 36th birthday but instead found themselves in police custody for several days.
This morning, they appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola in Court #1, where they were jointly charged with the importation of a controlled drug. Both initially pleaded guilty, but William later took full responsibility, telling the court:
“It wasn’t her. It was me.”
He explained that the marijuana was his and that his wife had no knowledge of it. The prosecution then withdrew the charge against Cranesha, leaving William to face the legal consequences alone.
William was fined $300, plus a $5 court fee, which he paid immediately to avoid a two-month prison sentence. In his statement to the court, he expressed regret for his actions and assured that he would not repeat the mistake.
The cannabis was found in a plastic container labelled “Ice Kream” inside the suitcase, which had a Southwest Airlines tag with Cranesha’s name. Although the couple was charged together, William took full responsibility, bringing their legal ordeal to a swift conclusion.
