Orange Walk Police report that they were called to the Northern Regional Hospital where they discovered the lifeless body of a 2-year-old girl.
According to the parents who live in Trinidad Village in the Orange Walk District, they were inside their home eating meanwhile their daughter, Ruth Maria Hernandez, was outside playing with other children on their farm.
After about ten minutes of letting Ruth go out to play, her father, Henry Hernandez, decided to go outside to check up on her but could not find her.
He along with Ruth’s older brother, began searching for her all over the farm including her favorite known hiding spots but she was nowhere to be found.
After further searching the farm, her older brother, Herson Hernandez, reportedly found Ruth lying motionless and face down in a pond of water located about 30 feet away from the house.
The father and son duo immediately pulled Ruth out from the pond and began to give CPR to the little girl but she remained unresponsive.
She was then immediately rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where doctors pronounced Ruth Maria Hernandez dead.
A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for later today.
