Weed Smuggling Ring at Customs Department Under Investigation

Authorities investigate a suspected weed smuggling ring at Customs after discovering 15 pounds of high-quality marijuana hidden in a shipment from the U.S. in April.

Authorities have launched a major investigation into a possible weed smuggling ring at Customs Department after a surprising discovery earlier this month.

In early April, a box arrived at the Customs Department during a regular shipment of consolidated packages from the United States. These shipments typically include barrels and personal goods sent through freight services. However, this time, officers found something alarming.

Inside one specific box, inspectors uncovered 15 pounds of high-grade marijuana. Although smuggling attempts happen frequently, what stands out is who showed interest in the box.

According to reports, two customs officers—a male and a female—personally contacted the officer inspecting the shipment. They allegedly asked him to “look out” for the box and clear it without issue. Curiously, the package was not addressed to either of them. They reportedly claimed it contained simple bath and body products.

However, when the inspector opened the box to verify its contents, he found multiple plastic bags filled with cannabis, not lotions or soaps. He immediately reported the discovery to his supervisor.

Soon after, the female customs officer who had been pushing for the box’s clearance was seen on security cameras entering the Customs compound. Once she received a call about the situation, she quickly left without retrieving the package.

Since that day, reports say the officer has been calling in sick and has not returned to work.

Meanwhile, the officer who found the marijuana has already provided police with a detailed statement.

Investigators now suspect a broader weed smuggling ring at the Customs Department might have been operating for some time. Authorities are considering detaining the officers involved for questioning.

Additionally, the marijuana found is considered top-grade. Experts say it could fetch up to $800.00 USD per ounce. This would make the seized shipment worth several hundred thousand dollars.

Police continue gathering evidence and have not ruled out more arrests as the investigation deepens.
