Four men have been arrested after a Western Dairies truck robbery turned into a high-speed police chase, raising inside job suspicions.
The daring daylight heist happened Monday afternoon as the truck traveled along Burrell Boom and Hattieville Road. The suspects staged a diversion, stopping the driver under the guise of buying ice cream. Suddenly, they pulled out weapons, holding the driver and a worker at gunpoint while assaulting them.
One of the robbers accessed the truck’s cash compartment, stealing $4,737 in mixed bills and an iPhone from one of the victims. The men then sped away in a waiting white vehicle.
Police responded swiftly, intercepting the suspects at Mile 4 on the George Price Highway. Officers, already familiar with the men, took all four into custody and recovered the stolen cash.
However, the investigation took an unexpected twist. Authorities found messages between one of the arrested suspects and a victim’s phone, sparking suspicions of an inside job in the Western Dairies truck robbery. As a result, police detained the driver as well.
Detectives are now investigating whether this was a carefully planned heist or a crime of opportunity gone wrong.
