Researchers at the Colorado State University claim that due to unusually warm sea surface temperatures during the first quarter of 2020, they predict a total of 16 storms to come into existence as of which 4 are expected to reach major hurricane strength with winds greater than 111 miles per hour.
This is only the 5th time recorded in history that researchers have predicted this many storms and is the highest amount of all 4 previous predictions where only a total of 14 storms were ever predicted to form.
The average number of storms predicted for the annual Hurricane Season is 12.
