Belize Goes Blue Once Again In Second Historic Election Victory

After hours of ballot counting, the results are in—Belize goes blue once again! John Briceño’s People’s United Party (PUP) secured a dominant victory, winning 26 seats. Meanwhile, the divided United Democratic Party (UDP) managed to claim only five seats, with three going to Tracy Panton’s faction and two to Shyne Barrow’s.

Here’s a breakdown of the results across every electoral division, listed in alphabetical order.

Albert

UDP’s newly elected and first-ever female party leader, Tracy Panton, triumphed with 1,243 votes out of 2,340 counted. Kaya Cattouse (PUP) followed with 1,014 votes, while Jose Luis Espat (UDP Shyne) and Cornelio Day Rogelio Galvez (PDM) lagged behind with 20 and 3 votes, respectively.

Belize Rural Central

PUP’s Dolores Balderamos Garcia secured 2,895 votes, more than doubling the count of the UDP (Panton) opponent Beverly Williams, who received 1,367. Shyne Barrow’s UDP candidate, David Almendarez, managed 142 votes, followed by Aaron Wilson (BJM) with 34 and Estevan Alejandro Perrera (PDM) with 49.

Belize Rural North

Marconi Devane Leal (PUP) won decisively with 2,898 votes out of 3,315 counted. Opponents Eustace Alden Shaw (UDP Shyne) and Andrew Reynolds (PNP) trailed with 298 and 56 votes, respectively.

Belize Rural South

The battle between incumbent Andre Perez (PUP) and former three-term UDP representative Manuel Herredia (Panton) was highly anticipated. In the end, Perez dominated with 3,418 votes, while Herredia secured 1,898. Abner Bacab (BJM) received 159 votes, and Lagha Mahmoud (UDP Shyne) finished last with 110.

Belmopan

Oscar Mira (PUP) claimed an easy victory with 4,009 votes. His UDP (Tracy) opponent, John Saldivar, received 1,789 votes, while Ralston Edward Frazer (UDP Shyne) trailed with 215.

Caribbean Shores

PUP’s Kareem Musa won his second term by a landslide, securing 2,025 votes. His competitors, Andrew Leo Bradley (UDP Panton) and Tyrone Louriano (UDP Shyne), received only 320 and 109 votes, respectively.

Cayo Central

Alex Balona (PUP) earned 3,031 votes, defeating Mark Roland O’Brien (UDP Shyne) with 2,310. Roody Lewinsky Wade (BJM) and Francisco Concepcion Escobar (GODP) followed with 29 and 26 votes.

Cayo North

Michel Chebat (PUP) secured a second term with 3,518 votes, surpassing Omar Antonio Figueroa (UDP Shyne) with 2,587. Leroy Lisbey (BJM) trailed with 67 votes.

Cayo North East

Orlando Habet (PUP) earned a second term with 2,813 votes, while Albert Joseph Fernandez (UDP Shyne) received 1,259.

Cayo South

Julius Espat (PUP) dominated with 4,476 votes. His UDP (Panton) opponent, June Young, only managed 510 votes, while Jose Antonio Sanayoa (UDP Shyne) received 67 votes.

Cayo West

Miguel Guerra (UDP Shyne) shocked many by defeating Jorge Espat (PUP), securing 2,612 votes to Espat’s 2,286. Esduit Ariel Moralez (BJM) managed only 66 votes.

Collet

Devin Daly (PUP) won with 1,271 votes, defeating former Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Jason Faber (UDP Panton), who received 1,108 votes.

Corozal Bay

Thea Garcia Ramirez (PUP) dominated with 3,122 votes, easily surpassing former PUP representative turned independent, Elvia “Elvie” Vega Samos, who earned 1,160 votes. First-time UDP candidate Hernan Andre Riverol, who switched allegiances from Shyne to Panton at the last moment, managed 394 votes.

Corozal North

Veteran UDP politician Hugo Patt secured a fifth term as Area Rep with 3,497 votes, crushing PUP’s David “Dave” Castillo, who received 2,385. Condace Espedido (BJM) received only 44 votes.

Corozal South East

Florencio Marin Jr. (PUP), following in his father’s footsteps, continued his undefeated streak with 3,683 votes, while Antonio Herrera (UDP Shyne) earned 1,755.

Corozal South West

Ramiro Ramirez (PUP) won his second term with 2,830 votes, narrowly defeating Martin Rivera (UDP Shyne) with 2,149 votes.

Dangriga

Louis Zabaneh (PUP) secured his second term with 2,237 votes. Independent candidate Cyril Garcia received 628 votes, while no UDP candidate was nominated.

Freetown

PUP veteran Francis Fonseca won with 2,164 votes, defeating Abraham Elrington Flowers (UDP Shyne), who received only 216.

Lake Independence

Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde (PUP) secured another landslide victory with 4,806 votes. His UDP opponents, Cecil Jenkins (Panton) and Samuel Cutkelvin (Shyne), received only 92 and 19 votes.

Mesopotamia

Lee Mark Chang (UDP Panton) defeated UDP leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow with 601 votes. Lawrence Russel Ellis (PUP) followed with 503, while Barrow finished last with 318. Following this loss, Shyne announced his immediate retirement from politics.

Orange Walk Central

Prime Minister John Briceño (PUP) dominated with 3,416 votes. His UDP opponents, Denni Grijalva (Panton) and Yara Mariza Cal Villeda (Shyne), received 837 and 83 votes.

Toledo East & Toledo West

Both divisions saw landslide PUP victories. Osmond Reynaldo Martinez (PUP) won Toledo East with 5,032 votes, while Oscar Ruben Requeña (PUP) took Toledo West with 3,809 votes.

Fort George & Pickstock

With no opposition candidates, PUP’s Anthony Mahler and Henry Charles Usher were automatically declared victors.

With these results, it’s clear—Belize goes blue once again, solidifying the People’s United Party’s stronghold in the nation’s political landscape.
