The Du Di Rait Ting award continues to inspire Belizean youth, with February’s recipient being first-form student Marian Gilharry of Cornerstone Presbyterian High School in Corozal. The Corozal Police Formation recognized her on Friday for her positive behavior, strong academic performance, and community involvement.
The Du Di Rait Ting award began in 2005 through the Belize Police Department’s Community-Oriented Policing Unit. It aims to encourage young people to stay in school, lead with character, and engage in their communities. The first national awards followed in 2006, and the program continues to spotlight young achievers across Belize.
Marian Gilharry received several tokens of appreciation. These included a certificate of recognition, a personal letter from the Commissioner of Police, a DDRT-branded T-shirt, and various school supplies. In addition, a generous business owner donated a cell phone to honor her efforts.
Friday’s event was especially significant. It marked the first DDRT award ceremony held in Corozal since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted such initiatives. The ceremony included key figures like Northern Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Christopher Noble and Superintendent Elroy Carcamo, who applauded the young student’s accomplishments.
Police officials also announced plans to revitalize the DDRT program throughout Corozal and beyond. They hope to strengthen partnerships with schools and local communities, helping more youth find encouragement and support.
Ultimately, the DDRT program serves as a vital tool in youth development. It bridges the gap between law enforcement and young Belizeans, fostering positive relationships, academic motivation, and strong community ties. Through continued recognition and outreach, the initiative seeks to build a brighter future, one student at a time.
