Manuel Heredia Jr. is back in the political spotlight. He’s running as the United Democratic Party (UDP) Standard Bearer for Belize Rural South in the March 12, 2025 General Elections. But there’s a twist—Dani Lagha is also vying for the same position under the UDP banner.
If both stay in the race, voters will see two UDP candidates on the ballot. This rare situation stems from the ongoing leadership battle within the UDP. Shyne Barrow backs Lagha, while Tracy Panton supports Heredia.
With the party divided, Belize Rural South voters could face a confusing election day. Alongside Heredia and Lagha, the ballot will feature Hon. Andre Perez of the People’s United Party (PUP) and Abner Bacab from the Belizean Justice Movement.
Will Manuel Heredia Jr. make a successful comeback? With four terms as Area Representative (2003, 2008, 2012, 2015) and a decade-long tenure as Minister of Tourism (2008–2020), he has the experience and recognition. His return strengthens the Panton faction’s position in the upcoming elections.
This election is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable yet.
