The motorcycle crime crackdown in Belize City has intensified, with police ramping up efforts to stop violence linked to two-wheelers. Authorities are now closely monitoring individuals using motorcycles to commit violent crimes across the city.
Although a State of Emergency has not been declared, law enforcement is taking swift action. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hilberto Romero confirmed that new strategies are now in place to prevent further bloodshed. One key focus is the growing trend of criminals using motorcycles to carry out murders.
“We have seen an increase in the use of motorcycles to commit these murders,” said ACP Romero. “So, we are targeting individuals on motorcycles. But we understand there are many law-abiding riders in the city. That’s why, once we identify suspicious persons, they are followed and searched.”
Romero emphasized that officers are not stopping people randomly. Instead, police are acting based on intelligence. “We know the key players,” he added. “So once we see them on motorcycles, we act immediately.”
As part of the motorcycle crime crackdown, over sixty suspected gang members have been detained in connection with recent killings. These individuals are currently being held for questioning as investigations continue.
In the last 48 hours alone, Belize City has seen multiple violent incidents linked to ongoing gang rivalries. Police have responded by strengthening patrols and launching targeted operations in known hotspots.
Community members have welcomed the increased police presence, though some still express concerns about safety. Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to report suspicious activity and cooperate with investigations.
Ultimately, the Belize Police Department aims to stop motorcycle-related crime before it escalates further. They remain committed to reducing gang violence while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
