A tourist climbs Chichen Itza pyramid during the highly anticipated equinox event, triggering outrage from onlookers and security. The incident occurred at the Castillo pyramid in Yucatán, as visitors gathered to witness the descent of Kukulkán’s shadow.

A 38-year-old German tourist ignored the rules and climbed the ancient structure, even attempting to hide from security.

“We were watching the west side of the Castillo, but he ran past us,” a security guard said.

The crowd, angered by the act, shouted at the tourist. Some demanded his arrest, while others jokingly called for “sacrifice” as punishment. As security escorted him away, dozens of furious onlookers attacked him.

The man suffered a head injury that caused him to bleed. Authorities from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the National Guard quickly intervened, removing him from the site and preventing further violence.

This is not the first time a tourist climbs Chichen Itza pyramid despite strict regulations. Officials continue to warn visitors that climbing the ancient structure is prohibited to protect its historical integrity.
